Briton Russell unexpectedly wins Singapore Grand Prix qualifying

Mercedes driver George Russell took the win, with Max Verstappen in second place and championship leader Oscar Piastre rounding out the top three.

It should be noted that Piastra’s McLaren teammate and main competitor in the championship fight, Lando Norris, showed a mediocre time and ended up in 5th place on the starting grid.
